Hi...This is awesome. I love small towns in NC. You may enjoy my book, "In Search of Mayberry" where I showcase 12 of NC's favorite small towns. Volume 2 is about halfway done. For more info, visit: www.insearchofmayberry.com. BTW, Hillsborough is a nice, artsy small town. As is Davidson.

New Bern NC is a charming historic town near the coast of NC with two huge river converging in the downtown area. Lots of golf, good climate with 4 seasons,
45 minutes to the beaches. New Bern was the original capitol of NC and is a very quaint and beautiful place to live.

i would like to find a friendly, artistic community on the east coast that is not too far north, but far enough that there would be 4 seasons. I picture a little fishing village, where there is good seafood pickings, and quaint little stores with cottage type houses, not tourist-tee. Okay if there is golf however I don't play anymore. I will be a retired business woman with an art degree & enjoy diversity.

Mount Airy, North Carolina, aka "Mayberry" was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article (October 2, 2006) as "an ideal place to retire". Readers Digest article (August 2005) "Utopia USA"

There are some beautiful views in western North Carolina and the
weather is not so extremely hot in the summer. During October the
fall leaves were so colorful and the mountain and lake views
were great! I plan to visit again very soon.
