Best Small Towns in Hawaii:

If you want to get away from the buzz of tourism and the large city lights, take a stroll in some of the most scenic and amazing small towns in Hawaii. While you won't find Honolulu on the list, you will discover hidden gems that offer pristine beauty and unique attractions that you don't want to miss.

1. Paia, Maui

This hip little surfing community is the island's hub for the sport. Surf shops line the streets and give rise to the hippest and most casual mix of restaurants, cafes and shops in the area. Eclectic boutiques and art galleries are also found in the town and the diverse residents and tourists make the town even more edgy and interesting. The town was once a plantation community and is found along the twists and turns of the road to Hana. Paia is one of those towns you won't want to miss while visiting the state of Hawaii.

2. Lahaina, Maui

The scenic town of Lahaina offers a historic shopping district that features Old World charm meets modern amenities of the 21st century. Architecture in the town brings the charm of the plantation community to life by preserving what once stood among the backdrop of the island's pristine beauty. There is a modern mix of eateries, retailers and nightclubs that lure tourists in by the droves but surprisingly enough, the town never seems over-crowded.

3. Hawi, Hawaii

Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Hawi is often over-looked in years past, but today offers a peaceful appeal that can only be found in one of the best small towns in Hawaii. Found along the Northern Kohala peninsula, the lush scenery is a huge draw, but tourists love the small community because of its well-preserved boutiques, shops and eateries. The storefronts have been reconstructed over the years to their natural state and offer rich history from the outside looking in. Bookstores and galleries line the streets.

Surf shops, shaved ice stands and ice cream parlors line the streets and give rise to a diverse group of residents and tourists. Professional surfers and sportsmen can often be seen strolling through the neighborhood of Haleiwa.

5. Hanalei, Kauai

Located far from the buzz of the city lights of Honolulu or any other large community in Hawaii is the picturesque town of Hanalei. The town is found along the North Shore of Kauai and can only be entered from the single lane bridge known as Hanalei River Bridge.
